One of the most popular destinations in Europe, the late 19th century
Neuschwanstein Castle is located near Hohenschwangau and Fussen in southwest
Bavaria, Germany. It was built by King Ludwig II, also known as Mad King Ludwig,
to replicate medieval architecture and pay homage to the operas of Wagner.
Born of pure fantasy, a beautiful romantic composition of towers and walls
in the idyllic setting of mountains and lakes, the castle is the embodiment
of 19th century romanticism. Built on a rock ledge over the Pollat Gorge
in the Bavarian Alps, it has fascinated and inspired generations of adults
and children alike.
